start to ride courses

These are a great introduction for children who are complete beginners to get in the saddle and see how they like it.

They run for 6 weeks and cover the basics such as how to behave around horses, safe handling, mounting dismounting, correct position and the basic "aids" (eg. how to get a horse to go, stop and turn)

At the end of the course, children receive our Grade 1 certificate and can then move on to one to one sessions to take their riding further.

Hats are supplied but we do require that children have suitable footwear. This means boots or shoes with a small heel and flat sole. Otherwise, they should wear leggings or close fitting trousers (not jeans due to the studs and zip damaging the saddle) and comfortable shirt and jacket (if needed) which allows free movement. Long hair should also be tied back.

There are 2 groups - one for 4-7 year olds (Saturdays 2.30pm) and another for 8-14 year olds (Saturdays 12.00pm). The groups are small (4 for the younger group and 6 for the older one) so that individual attention can still be given.

The younger group runs for half an hour and older one for a hour where the children ride for 45 minutes and then receive 15 minutes horse care training.
